Self-Care; What It Is and How It Can Help

What is self-care?

“ You can’t pour from an empty cup.” Self-care is taking time to make sure our own cup is full before we try to fill up the cup of someone else.

Why is self-care important?

Self-care is important because it gives us the balance we need to be able to complete all other necessary life tasks minus the feeling of being weighed down.

When can we make time for self-care?

Self-care can take place almost anywhere you are. You only need to set the amount of time you need (5 minutes or a few days). If you feel as though you have too many things going on and you just don’t have the time, start out with five minutes. Practice mindfulness in that one to five minutes. (If you aren’t sure what mindfulness is, send me an email.)

Who is self-care good for?

Self-care is good for everyone. If you have a job that is physically and/or mentally draining, self-care can help you balance yourself out so that you can continue to do your job at a high performance. If we are always tired and have low energy then we can’t be our best selves at work or at home with our families. If you find that you are particularly drained often or you feel like you never stop moving, it may time to look at how we can implement some self-care.
