What Are The Overlooked Symptoms Of Trauma?

June 13, 2023 · In: Uncategorized

Trauma can be a very personal and traumatic experience, and its effects can be far-reaching. Unfortunately, many of the trauma symptoms can often be overlooked or disregarded, leading to further suffering and prolonged healing. From physical ailments and changes in behavior to difficulty forming relationships and regulating emotions, the effects of trauma can be challenging to recognize.

Physical Symptoms

Physical symptoms might be the most unpleasant and are frequently the simplest to observe on the surface. Trauma symptoms can include headaches, fatigue, and changes in appetite and sleep. It is common to experience physical ailments, including digestive issues, body aches, and chronic joint or muscle pain. Increased sensitivity to touch, noise, and smell can also be experienced, as well as changes in the body, such as decreased libido and menstrual cycles.

Emotional Symptoms

Trauma can also cause profound changes in a person’s emotional state. Feelings of depression and anxiety can be intensified and can manifest in seemingly unrelated ways. Mood swings, irritability, and hopelessness are all signs that need to be addressed. In addition, the ability to regulate emotions can be significantly impacted, making it challenging to control reactions and feelings.

Cognitive Symptoms

Cognitive symptoms are often more subtle and can manifest differently. A common symptom of trauma is difficulty concentrating or comprehending information, which can make daily tasks more difficult. There may also be memory issues that can manifest in the inability to recall certain details or moments. In addition, difficulty forming relationships or making decisions can signal underlying issues relating to unresolved trauma.

Behavioral Symptoms

Behavioral symptoms often only appear after more severe trauma and can come in different forms. Impulsivity, acting out, or reckless behavior can all be signs of unresolved trauma, as an addiction and self-harming. Additionally, these behavioral symptoms can manifest in avoidance behaviors such as isolation from the world and people or not wanting to participate in School or work.

It can be challenging to identify the physical, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral signs of trauma, so understanding its impacts is crucial for effective treatment.. If you believe that you or someone you know may be suffering from trauma, it is important to contact a professional who can provide support and guidance for proper processing and healing.

🌱 Understanding Attachment Issues 🌱 As therapists 🌱 Understanding Attachment Issues 🌱

As therapists, We've seen firsthand how attachment issues can deeply impact our relationships and sense of self. It's important to remember that these issues often stem from early experiences and are not a reflection of our worth or capability to love and be loved.

Attachment issues can manifest in various ways, including difficulty trusting others, fear of abandonment, or even feeling overly dependent in relationships. These patterns can be challenging, but they are not unchangeable.

Healing starts with awareness and compassion for ourselves. It involves understanding our attachment style, exploring our past, and learning new ways to connect with others. Therapy can be a safe space to navigate these feelings and work towards healthier, more fulfilling relationships.

Remember, it's okay to seek help. You deserve to feel secure and loved in your relationships. 🌻

Let's spread awareness and support each other on this journey to healing. 💚
